Abstrak

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengsimulasi kapasitas tampung ternak sapi potong di agropastura Pulau Timor berdasarkan produksi hijauan, kebutuhan hijauan, populasi ternak, dan laju konversi lahan agropastura. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Pulau Timor provinsi Nusa Tenggara Timur Indonesia. Materi penelitian berupa vegetasi hijauan di agropastura dan 120 responden peternak sapi potong. Jenis penelitian adalah deskriptif dengan desain penelitian cross sectional. Data yang dikumpulkan berupa data primer dan data sekunder. Analisis data dilakukan dengan cara membangun sistem dinamis menggunakan Powersim dan mengintepretasi hasil simulasi untuk jangka waktu 15 tahun ke depan. Berdasarkan hasil simulasi sistem dinamis perkembangan populasi sapi potong di agropastura Pulau Timor menunjukkan bahwa kurun waktu 15 tahun mendatang adanya penurunan populasi sapi potong secara signifikan dan mempengaruhi ketersediaan pakan di agropastura menjadi berlebih karena ketiadaan ternak sapi. Hal ini disebabkan karena kematian pedet dan induk sapi masih tinggi, status reproduksi betina rendah, pengeluaran ternak sapi yang tidak mempertimbangkan kemampuan wilayah, dan epidemi sapi yang cukup tinggi. Perbaikan kualitas dan kapasitas input sapi potong perlu dilakukan oleh peternak dan staekholder penternakan.
